Funding

Developments are funded through:

  • Housing Revenue Account borrowing
  • Greater London Authority grant, or
  • ‘Right to Buy’ receipts

'Right to Buy' receipts are where we use a proportion of the monies from the sale of Council housing to help fund the construction of new Council housing . This is subject to specific restrictions.

Building new Council houses

Since 2012, Central Government has given Councils more flexibility to finance build programmes through:

  • local authority Housing Revenue Accounts
  • a proportion of ‘Right to Buy’ receipts

Choosing the right sites for development

There is a real need for more social housing in the borough. We have been looking at a range of sites across the borough to develop. Re-developing garage sites is one of the routes to deliver extra housing.

Renting new council houses or flats

We allocate Council housing through Sutton home choice.

Shortly before completion, new rental properties are advertised on the website. Those registered on the council waiting list can apply. Properties are then allocated to the households categorised as high priority.
