Sutton Council is developing a new Careers Hub to support young people finding their way into employment after leaving school.

Working with local schools, colleges and partners, the Council will recruit a wide range of employers and businesses to deliver a high quality careers programme. This partnership working with education establishments, training providers, councils and businesses, aims to deliver a world class careers education system that will see our young people on the right path to achieve their full potential.

Some key events are planned:

  • Skills and Employment fairs

  • Next Steps events with further education colleges, training providers and universities

  • Aim Higher events - for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) supported students

  • Parent and Carer Lifelong Learning events

In order to harness a broad range of industries and educational opportunities, this work is being delivered in partnership with South London Partnership boroughs: Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Richmond. This will enable the provision of a dedicated training and continuing professional development programme to school leadership, careers leadership and teachers.

In the recent National Apprenticeship Week, we partnered with South Thames College Group and the Metropolitan Police to promote Higher Level Apprenticeships.

The plans for the Careers Hub were also presented to Sutton's Young Commissioners forum. At a Careers Leaders Networking session, schools expressed an interest in learning more about the London Cancer Hub and how it can provide local opportunities, so the council is arranging schools site visits and tours.

The programme will also benefit local businesses giving them access to a wide pool of potential employees with the right skills to take up productive roles and apprenticeships and add value to their business.

More information will be released soon about these fantastic events and how you can get involved.
