Planning a family care home visit this half-term?

The limit on the number of people who can visit a loved one in a care home at any one time was lifted earlier this month.

This coming half-term will be the first opportunity in nearly two years for some families to all get together again. But the Covid virus is still circulating, especially among young children, so it’s important to take a few steps to keep everyone safe

  • Call ahead to let the Care Home know when you plan to visit so the staff can be prepared - some homes might need to ask people to stagger visits to avoid overcrowding

  • Take a lateral flow test on the morning you plan to visit, including children. If the tests are positive you must report the result, stay home and self isolate for the required time period

  • During your visit, keep windows open so fresh air can circulate in the room - or meet outside if you can

  • Follow any requests by care home staff to wear face coverings, wash your hands (for 20 seconds), use hand sanitiser and maintain social distancing when on the premises

  • Most important of all, have a lovely day and enjoy your time together
