Retention of the Committee System Governance Arrangement

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Sutton, at its meeting on 26 January 2026, resolved to continue to operate a committee system form of governance as permitted by section 9B(1)(b) of the Local Government Act 2000.

There are no changes to the way the Council's functions are discharged as a result of this resolution to continue operating an already established governance structure, with decisions being made by four strategic committees (Strategy and Resources Committee; Housing, Economy and Business Committee; Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee; and People Committee). 

This resolution was passed in response to amendments to the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill, laid before Parliament in the week beginning 24 November 2025. It is to enable the Council to continue to operate a committee system of governance, if permissible, once the bill is enacted.
