Have you considered generating your own energy by installing solar panels in your home? If so, you can sign up today for Solar Together London, a scheme open to all residents interested in installing solar panels on their roofs. Delivered by the Council in partnership with the Mayor of London, and iChoosr, Solar Together London is a collective purchasing scheme that brings residents together to purchase high-quality solar panels at a competitive price, supporting our aim to increase renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.

iChoosr, an independent expert in group buying schemes, has worked with more than 160 councils to help residents collectively purchase solar panels.

How can I take part?

Registration for Solar Together London is now open. You can register for free, with no obligation to process with installation once you receive your quote and personal recommendation in April 2022. To take part, simply follow the following steps:

  1. Registration: Register online before 15 March 2022 for free and without obligation. Residents without internet access can call 0800 060 8509 (Mon - Friday 08:00 - 17:00).

  2. Auction: an ‘auction’ will be held on 15 March where pre-vetted solar installers will submit bids for the work. The more people that register, the better the deal should be for each household. The installer with the most competitive package will win the auction.

  3. Personal recommendation: From 4 April 2022 you will be emailed your personal recommendation, based on your registration details. This includes the cost and specifications of your system.

  4. You decide: the decision is then yours as to whether you want to accept your recommendation. There is no obligation to continue. You will have until 13 May 2022 to decide and will be invited to an information session to help inform your decision. If you choose to proceed, you will be asked to pay a £150 deposit. This deposit is conditionally refundable; more information can be found in our deposit conditions.

  5. Installation: if you accept, the winning installer will contact you to survey your roof and set an installation date. All installations are planned to be completed by the end of October 2022.

What is the council doing?

In 2019 the council declared a climate emergency and committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions. We have also installed solar panels on a number of our buildings including the largest array on the top of Gibson Road car park. There you can find nearly 500 panels elevated above 57 parking spaces. The council's solar panels generate around 180,000 kWh of electricity per year, saving us approximately £21,000 a year in energy bills and reducing carbon emissions by over 97,000 kg of CO2 per year.
