Some waste collection changes

Earlier this year, we launched our new street and waste cleaning contract with Veolia. The new service is designed to be more responsive, help residents recycle more and see improvements to street cleaning.
86% of residents are satisfied with waste collection service, according to our latest residents survey carried out by an independent market research company this Summer. They spoke to over 1000 residents who are a representative sample of the people of Sutton.
Now, we are a few months into the new waste contract and we are making some changes to your collections. This will not impact everyone, but the changes will allow us to continue to provide a more responsive service, make recycling easier and our collections and environmentally friendly.
So, what's happening?
- New collection days: Some, not all residents, will have a new collection day/week. You will have received a new calendar if this affects you.
- Dedicated vehicles: Say goodbye to vehicles collecting two different types of waste. New, dedicated vehicles will be collecting your waste and recycling separately. This means less contamination and better quality recycling.
- Greener collections: Even with more collection rounds, we're expecting a 9% drop in emissions. This is thanks to fewer trips to disposal sites, reduced mileage, and super fuel-efficient new vehicles running partially on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO).
Important information about the changes:
- Changes start: Monday, September 29, 2025.
- Check your new days: visit sutton.gov.uk/w/check-your-bin-collection-days to find your new collection schedule.
- Temporary disruption: There might be a little disruption as we bed in the new service, but we're taking steps to keep it to a minimum.
- Collection times: Your collections might happen at different times of the day. Please leave your bins out until the following day before reporting a missed collection after 6:00 pm on your new collection day. Missed collections will be sorted within two working days (Mon-Fri).
- No change to frequency: Your non-recyclable and recyclable waste will still be collected fortnightly, and food waste will continue to be collected weekly. Garden waste subscribers will also continue with fortnightly collections.
- Assisted collections: These will continue as usual.
