Sutton’s ground-breaking short film "We DANCE for LIFE" has been shortlisted for this year’s European Short Film Festival.

The short film celebrates the latest scientific discoveries taking place at the London Cancer Hub in Belmont, Sutton and launched the Sutton STEAMs Ahead year of culture programme. This follows Sutton winning a Cultural Impact Award for 2023 as part of the Mayor’s London Borough of Culture programme.

The journey of "We DANCE for LIFE" began earlier this year with its grand premiere in Sutton on World Cancer Day. The film , produced by Ian Sciacaluga & Victor Films. captivated audiences with its unique blend of cleverly choreographed dance sequences, featuring over 200 local residents and volunteers.

Thanks to overwhelming support from the Sutton community, "We DANCE for LIFE" quickly moved into the international spotlight. It won Best film at the Experimental Dance & Music Festival in Canada and the USA earlier this month. The film has now been selected for the European Short Film Festival later this month.

Responding to the news, Councillor Barry Lewis said:

"We DANCE for LIFE" is a great advert for the Sutton STEAMs Ahead cultural programme.

“This film mixes art and science to highlight our borough’s unique role in groundbreaking cancer research and takes it to a global audience. Congratulations to everyone who made this possible.
