GCSE students across Sutton have once again delivered a set of excellent exam results that continue a steady rise in outstanding achievement.
Home to some of the best schools in the country, Sutton students continue to outperform national results, with early data showing that:
- 85% of pupils in Sutton schools achieved grade 4 or above in English and Maths (this represents the same as in the previous year)
- 87.9% of pupils achieved 4+ in English (a decrease of 1.7% from last year), and 88.0% achieved 4+ in Maths (an increase of 0.7% from last year)
This compares with a national average of 59.7% and 58.2% respectively.
Sutton Council joined students at Greenshaw High School as they celebrated receiving their results.
Nick House, Head Teacher of Greenshaw High, said, “Every year I am proud of the efforts our students and staff have made, but I am particularly proud of this year group. In the midst of the pandemic the country’s GCSE students of 2025 did not complete primary school in the normal way, and then had to start secondary school in bubbles.
“Without the benefit of the normal experience of school transition, all pupils across the country should feel really that they have accomplished something special today. At Greenshaw, we have been blown away by the way our pupils committed to their studies, and absolutely know how well they are set up for their next successes.”
Councillor Marian James, Chair of Sutton Council’s People Committee, said: “Year on year, Sutton students consistently exceed national averages in their GCSE results, and today is no exception. This excellent set of results is a clear reflection of the outstanding schools we have in Sutton.
“Congratulations to all our students and schools who received their results. Today is an opportunity to celebrate all of your hard work over the last two years and you should be so proud of what you have achieved.”
