Sutton's Decade of Growth

More than four out of five Sutton residents say they feel proud to live in our local area, with the top reason given 'people are respectful and friendly’. 90% of us say their local area is a place where people from different backgrounds get on well.

How do we know this? Over the summer, the Council asked an independent market research company to conduct a survey of residents' views about living in Sutton. They spoke to over 1000 residents who are a representative sample of the people of Sutton

There is a lot more good news about how people in Sutton get on with each other and I will share more of this with you soon.

Earlier in the week the Council published its Economic Growth Plan for Sutton that outlines how Sutton is an outstanding borough with fantastic opportunities for all. It sets out the actions the Council will be taking to attract more business to Sutton, develop our leisure and cultural offer and how we will help residents and students to access more opportunities.

The town centre is helping to contribute to Sutton’s growth, with over 90% of shops occupied, new stores like Lidl coming, and Morrisons confirming their continued presence. Private investments, such as Chalk Gardens (the former B&Q site) and the proposed revitalisation of St Nicholas House and Quadrant House, will also contribute. The London Cancer Hub (LCH) in Belmont, already Europe's leading cancer district, will expand with the development of the Aviva Capital Partners and Socius investment. The project is expected to attract millions in investment and, once complete, create 3,000 direct jobs.

But Sutton’s growth extends beyond the town centre to our seven district centres like Wallington, Carshalton, and Cheam, and industrial areas such as Beddington and the Kimpton Industrial Estate, which are attracting investment with new developments like Prologis Park.

Sutton is experiencing growth now, and our plan will ensure the future prosperity for every part of Sutton. This will be intertwined with community well-being and a high quality of life. The next decade promises to solidify Sutton's position as a dynamic and desirable place to live, work, and invest and I look forward to the journey ahead.
