Sutton brings it home!

Sutton has this week won top prize at the Green Awards UK 2025.

Working with the Sutton Business Improvement District (Successful Sutton) and Green Mark, the groundbreaking Green Enterprise Partnership has enabled 200+ local businesses to reduce their environmental impact, cut emissions and reinvest sustainably what they save from a business rates reduction.

The Go Green Scheme is the first-ever green tax incentive for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the country. Businesses receive 70% annual relief from the Council over two years on their business rates bill when they measure their environmental impact, set reduction goals and demonstrate real reductions in their carbon emissions.

The impact so far has been huge:

• 200+ businesses supported across Sutton
• Average emissions cut by more than 20% (smashing the original 5% target)
• Significant business rates savings for SMEs which is then reinvested in environmental improvements

This initiative is not only innovative and making a huge difference - it’s now award-winning too! 🏆
