Sutton Town Centre Community-led Masterplan

Overview

Sutton’s vision for growth is taking another step. In recent years, investment in buildings and new developments has already begun to reshape Sutton Town Centre, changing its look and feel. This has brought new opportunities, attracted private sector investment, and helped our town centre grow and adapt.

However, while buildings and developments have moved forward, the public spaces that connect them - the streets, squares, and shared areas where people meet, travel, and spend time - have not kept pace. These spaces must also evolve to fully realise the benefits of these investments, adapt to new uses, and ensure our town centre grows as a thriving hub of community life, remaining vibrant, relevant, and competitive in meeting both current and future needs.

A team of consultants, Sanchez Benton Architects, in collaboration with Rumi Bose and Urban Movement, have been commissioned to prepare the Sutton Town Centre Community-Led Masterplan. The output of this work will be a vision and design setting out proposals for improvements and enhancement to  Sutton Town centre. 

Their work will build on and extend the body of research the Council has conducted and commissioned so far.

A key part of the programme involves engaging with local people and organisations to understand lived experiences of the town centre, issues and challenges.

The objective of the engagement is to empower communities to have a sense of belonging and pride in their local area as places change, and to build genuine collaboration between residents, businesses, and stakeholders in shaping its future.

What’s happening now

The consultant team is delivering a series of engagement events with residents, businesses, and stakeholders. 

Engagement is taking place in a variety of formats, locations, and times—ensuring flexibility and reach. Events are being held in local venues, with targeted outreach to specific groups, alongside larger public forums.

Survey

We are running a survey to hear your views about public spaces in Sutton Town Centre. This will be running until 31 January 2026.

Your views will help to shape our Sutton Town Centre Public Realm Masterplan. This Plan will set out all the improvements we will make to Sutton Town Centre’s public spaces over the next 5-10 years.
