Take care of yourself

In the last few days it’s been getting chillier and it's clear we will soon be approaching the winter months. For many this is a fun time of year as we start to think about Halloween, Bonfire Night and even Christmas. However, it is important to also think about taking steps to protect our health during this time.
This year the NHS is advising that with both the flu and Covid-19 viruses circulating at the same time, it’s more important than ever to top up our immunity.
From this month, the flu vaccination will be free for everyone over the age of fifty at local pharmacies. It’s already freely available for children aged under 18 and everyone aged over 65, and anyone who is pregnant or has a long-term health condition. I was grateful to the staff at the Robin Hood Lane Health Centre who gave me my flu jab last week!
There has also been news that confirmed cases of Covid-19 in London are on the rise again. From today everyone aged 50 and over can book their Covid-19 booster online. Please do check if you’re eligible to receive the Covid-19 booster. I’ve booked in to get mine tomorrow morning at my local pharmacy.
Fortunately, for most people the symptoms pass in just a few days but for some people they can be very serious. It’s important to take care from the first signs of a cough or sore throat, and to be careful not to spread the germs where possible. This is especially important if you will be close to people who could be vulnerable, such as when you are visiting older relatives and friends.
By looking after ourselves, we can look after each other and stay safe this winter.
