Temporary closure of Cheam Library and Westcroft Library

From Tuesday 27 October Cheam Library and Westcroft Library will both be closed for two weeks. This is as the result of a small number of coronavirus cases in the Service and as result impacts on the availability of staff across our sites.

All other libraries in Sutton remain open as per usual and visitors can check the library locations and opening times on our website.

Alternative facilities are available in both areas. Worcester Park and Sutton Central Library remain open for residents in Cheam and Wallington and Circle Library remain open for residents close to Westcroft.

Both Cheam and Westcroft continue to provide a drop off facility if residents wish to return books from either of the closed libraries. All fees and fines for items borrowed since 20 March 2020 are waived - you will not incur any charges.

Jan Underhill, Assistant Director Wellbeing, Chief Executive, says

“The safety of library staff and visitors are of the utmost importance, which is why the decision was made to close both facilities at the first sign of positive cases. Staff at all of Suttons libraries are working hard to ensure they remain a safe place to visit. Libraries are an important service for many residents and we want to ensure we can continue to provide a safe environment for residents and staff alike.“

All libraries in Sutton have conducted a thorough risk assessment and are following strict guidance. Social distancing measures are in place and most services are available via an appointment system. Library staff wear face coverings and work mostly behind a screen. Returned books are quarantined for 72 hours.

Public and staff areas are regularly cleaned. Areas where customers are seated (for example, computers and study areas) are also cleaned between each appointment.

Test and trace is available at all of our premises.
