Certain people and vehicles are able to enter a School Street during its hours of operation.

Find out if your house is within the School Streets area.

Any vehicle that is already within the School Street area prior to the time that the restrictions begin will be allowed to leave without penalty.

If you live in the School Street area

If you are a resident who lives within the School Street area:

  • you can register your vehicle as exempt
  • when you have an exemption permit, you can enter the School Street area during the hours of restriction
  • exemption permits are free of charge, but you must apply for an exemption permit
  • even if you have a Residents parking permit, you will still need to apply for the School Street exemption
  • households within the restricted area will be limited to 3 permits at any one time

Students with special educational needs or disabilities

  • exemptions are available to vehicles dropping off or picking up students with special educational needs or disabilities
  • these vehicle details need to be registered with the school who will determine requests on a case-by-case basis

Carers

Residents within the school street zone will be able to apply for 2 additional permits for their carers.

Emergency services, school buses, and similar

Exemptions apply to emergency service vehicles, school buses and certain other service and utility vehicles.

Blue badge holders

You can apply for an exemption permit if you or your child is a blue badge holder and attends a school in a School Street.

Blue Badge holders needing access to properties within the school street zone are exempt.

Please note that Blue Badge holders using a route through a school street during the restricted times will not be exempt and may receive a PCN.

If you live in the surrounding area

Residents in the surrounding areas who do not live directly on the School Street will not be able to apply for exemption.

You will need to observe the restrictions at school drop-off and pick-up times.
