The London Borough of Sutton’s children’s residential homes, have received an overall “good” rating in their recent Ofsted inspection. Willow Rise first opened in July 2020, forming a key part of the Council’s plan to address the lack of accommodation for children in care.

This week I was contacted by a resident who is being evicted from their private-rented property. It is really difficult. The number of people being evicted from private-rented homes continues to increase. The Council is required to offer assistance and guidance, but cannot create housing that does not exist. There is a shortage of housing across the UK and rightly there is pressure from the Government and the Mayor to build more housing and this is why new homes are being built in and near Sutton Town Centre.

London's Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth, Howard Dawber, has praised the Council's ambitious regeneration plans during a visit to Sutton last week, hosted by Leader of the Council, Councillor Barry Lewis.

This Tuesday marked World Cancer Day, a day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. In Sutton, that work is already happening at the London Cancer Hub (LCH), where new discoveries for the treatment and cure of cancer are being made on a regular basis.

It’s been great to see Sutton in the news recently as one of the top places to live in England. What has not been so good is when we’ve seen on our TV screens more stories about the failing building at St Helier Hospital.

Following the success of the Moon Bloom installation and the vibrant Moon Festival celebration in September, the iconic structure will be relocating to a new, permanent home at the London Cancer Hub in Belmont in late January 2025.
