If your application for British citizenship is approved by the Home Office, you’ll be sent a letter inviting you to a citizenship ceremony.
If you are over 18 years old you must attend a citizenship ceremony. You don't have to attend if you're under 18.
To arrange a citizenship ceremony complete our enquiry form or call us on 020 8770 6790.
Where the ceremony is held
Citizenship ceremonies are held at the Sutton Register Office (Russettings), 25 Worcester Road, Sutton, SM2 6PR.
In Sutton, citizenship ceremonies are normally held in a group and are free of charge.
Individual ceremonies can be arranged for a fee of £110 per person.
You will need to bring your Home Office invitation letter and photo ID to the ceremony.
What happens at the ceremony
During the ceremony:
- the superintendent registrar will give a speech of welcome
- you'll take a new citizenship oath and pledge - this is a legal requirement and is the moment at which citizenship is granted
- you’ll receive a certificate, information pack and commemorative gift
- the national anthem will be played
You'll collect your certificate of naturalisation at the end of the ceremony. You can then use this to support passport applications and to prove British citizenship.
If you have any other requirements, please contact us in advance and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
