Leaves on the street

During autumn and winter, our crews work hard to clear fallen leaves from the roads and pavements. We bring in extra teams with specialist equipment to help, and we focus on areas with a lot of trees.

We can't predict exactly when the leaves will fall, and it's impossible to keep every street completely clear all the time. However, we do aim to clear up slippery, wet leaves as quickly as possible.

We have a set schedule for streets that we know get a lot of leaves, and we also respond to reports from the public about other areas that need attention. If you let us know about hazardous leaves, we'll visit the location and arrange for them to be cleared.

Please note that we are only responsible for clearing leaves from public roads and pavements, not from private land.

If leaves are breaking down and blocking drains, report a blocked or flooded drain
If leaves are becoming a slip hazard to pedestrians, report a street cleaning issue

How you can help

Some residents and community groups like to lend a hand with the annual leaf-clearing task, and we’re very grateful for their help.
