Oru Sutton launches in Sutton High Street

Sutton continues to deliver as it rolls out the next scheme in the Council’s ambitious plans to regenerate Sutton town centre with the official opening of Oru Sutton. 

Oru Sutton is the first of the Council’s “big five” groundbreaking regeneration schemes to open its doors to the public in the high street. It models a new approach to work life balance, bringing together collaborative business working spaces with leisure activities, wellbeing classes and the award-winning Trinco restaurant.

The project is supported by the Mayor of London's Good Growth Fund and his Grow Back Greener Fund and is one of the workspaces delivered through the BIG South London programme. It delivers on Sutton’s ambitious programme to revitalise Sutton Town Centre by encouraging more people to visit the High Street and bringing long-term empty buildings back into use.

The Oru Sutton building was previously occupied by BHS, which closed down in 2016. The Council took the initiative and purchased the building in 2019 and quickly secured H&M as its ground floor tenant. After an open competitive process, Oru Space were selected as the delivery partner to bring back to life and operate the upper floors of the building. 

In recognition of the important part Oru Sutton plays in the Council’s town centre regeneration, the launch event was attended by high-profile guests, including the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Council, the Deputy Mayor of London for Planning, Regeneration and Skills, the Head of Regeneration from the Greater London Authority and local businesses.

“We’re proud to officially welcome Oru Sutton as an exciting and sustainable business to the town centre. Oru Sutton offers our residents, businesses and visitors a vibrant and inclusive space to work and relax. 

“It’s great to see a previously empty space in a prominent location on Sutton High Street brought back to life with so many people working, eating and drinking here, as well as enjoying health treatments, classes and group activities.

“The Council is committed to working with our partners to make Sutton a thriving place to live, work, study and invest in. By working with businesses like Oru Sutton, we’re bringing this vision to life. We hope to see more businesses and residents choose to make Sutton their home.”
