Permanent Market Pitches - Sutton High Street

Sutton High Street is one of 3 streets designated for permanent street trading in the Borough.

The Council offer a temporary licence for new traders which lasts for 12 weeks, subject to a minimum of 3 days trading per week. After this period, we can provide a permanent licence which runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.

Fees

What happens next

Your application will be assessed according to:

  • the days you wish to trade
  • whether you can readily be accommodated in the market

If you have not traded at Sutton market previously, it is a good idea to visit our market to see what goods existing traders sell.

All new applications are subject to a 28 day consultation period. If there are no objections to your application, your licence will be issued at the end of this period. You may not trade until such time as a licence has been issued.

Renewal

Applications to renew a permanent market pitch licence must be made a month before the expiry date of the current licence.

Conditions

All traders must comply with the standard conditions for Sutton Market.

Pavement Cafes - Sutton High Street

In addition to the sale or display of goods on the highway, street trading also encompasses the placing of tables and chairs outside a café, restaurant or bar. On Sutton High Street and the immediate surrounding area (as detailed in our Street Trading Policy), these are called Pavement Cafes.

Tables and chairs can only be placed on the highway between the hours of 07:00 and 22:00. Pavement cafe fees are based on the square footage of the area of highway utilised. You can apply for up to 4 square meters, up to 6 square meters, up to 8 square meters or over 8 square meters.

Details of the fees payable are available on our fees page.

Pavement cafe licences are issued for a period of 6 months. Summer licences run from 1 April to 30 September and winter licences from 1 October to 31 March.
