Sutton residents have long known that our borough has some of the most beautiful parks in London. And this week that has been borne out as Sutton has won seven new Green Flag Awards, beating the Council’s own previous record of six awards.

The prestigious Green Flag scheme recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, with judging based on extensive criteria including environmental management; biodiversity, landscape and heritage; and community involvement.

The seven Sutton parks that won Green Flag awards in 2022 are:

  • Beddington Park
  • The Grove
  • Manor Park
  • Cheam Park
  • Oaks Park
  • Carshalton Park
  • Rosehill Park

Councillor Barry Lewis, Chair of the Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee, said:

“I’m delighted that Sutton’s parks have won seven prestigious Green Flag awards. Our parks and green spaces are at the heart of our community, offering residents space for leisure, relaxation, socialising, exercise and much more.

"We know that they have become increasingly important since Covid, which is why we are investing over £2m in park infrastructure and equipment this year. This sum includes large-scale improvements in the St Helier Open Space, tennis court upgrades, skate ramp refurbishments, tree planting and maintenance, and more.

"These Green Flag awards show that this investment, alongside the hard work of our parks’ teams, volunteers and Friends groups, has really paid off and I congratulate all involved for their success.”

Our parks are busy places with lots of fun activities for all the family.
