Turn Trash into Treasure with Sutton’s Spring Clean Treasure Trail!

Sutton Council - and its waste, recycling & street cleaning contractor Veolia - is launching an interactive treasure trail for young residents this weekend as part of the 2024 Sutton Spring Clean campaign.

Sutton Spring Clean encourages residents to take part in community litter picks across the borough to keep streets clean and looking their best. Over the last two years, the initiative has been a success, with residents receiving free litter-picking kits and pledging to collect over 1,200 bags of litter.

This year, the Sutton Spring Clean will feature a treasure trail through Sutton Town Centre to help educate young residents about littering and the impact it has on local communities and the environment. Litter bins along the High Street will feature stickers with the answers to questions asked on treasure maps.

Sutton’s young residents can take part in the town centre treasure trail on Saturday 23 March starting at Trinity Square. After finding the answers to all of the eco-themed questions along the trail, residents can enter a competition to win a children’s Fitbit and will be offered a free kit to complete their litter pick pledge as part of the Great British Spring Clean.

Residents who would like to complete the trail on a different day can pick up maps from Sutton Central Library or the St Nicholas shopping centre until the end of March. They will also be able to pick up their free litter-picking kit from Sutton Central Library once their trail is complete, while stocks last.

Scott Edgell, General Manager for Veolia South London, said :

“We’re excited to be supporting Sutton’s Spring Clean for the third year running, to encourage even the youngest residents to take pride in the borough by keeping it clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.

“We are proud to provide high-quality street cleansing services across the borough and look forward to supporting local residents who enjoy doing their bit to make a difference in their communities.

“We hope that the future eco-leaders of Sutton are inspired by the event and enjoy learning about the importance of disposing of litter correctly.”
