Deaths outside of district
Deaths outside of the London Borough of Sutton
The death has to be registered in the district in which it has occurred.
To assist those registering who cannot attend in the district of death the local office can take the relevant information at an appointment and post this to the office where the death occurred. This is called a declaration.
It is important to note that this declaration can only be taken when the necessary medical certificate or coroners' paperwork has been issued and emailed to Sutton. A delay will occur in the issue of certificates and forms for the funeral director.
Certificates cost £11 each and you will need to contact the district where the event is to be registered to arrange payment.

Deaths outside of England
If a person dies in another country it is possible for that person to be repatriated and buried in England or Wales.
In most circumstances a funeral director will have been appointed and can apply to the register office in the district where the burial is to take place for a document permitting this. It is called a certificate of no liability to register.. There is no charge for this document but the necessary proofs of death from the country of death will be required to be presented before the certificate can be issued.
The death is not registered here but there in some cases a record can be kept at the General Register Office.
