We are now taking bookings for civil partnerships for opposite sex couples.

The Civil Partnerships (Opposite- sex couples) Regulations 2019, now extend eligibility for opposite sex couples to form a civil partnership and this was introduced in December 2019.

If you wish to form an opposite sex civil partnership at Sutton Register Office or to combine the signing with a ceremony at Russettings  please make your booking with us as soon as possible by calling 020 8770 6790.

Before booking with us please give consideration to the following;

Be certain that a Civil Partnership meets your requirements by checking the table published on Gov.uk web pages here Marriage and civil partnership in England and Wales.  This information sets out the similarities and differences between civil partnership and marriage in England and Wales for same-sex and opposite-sex couples.

Legal preliminaries are required. Each party must declare a notice of the intended formation of a civil partnership at the Register Office within their district of residence.

Notice is given for a period of 29 days after which the formation can take place at a date of your choice within one year.

 In certain cases, depending on immigration status, the statutory waiting period may be extended to 71 days and your notice is given at a designated office,

Before arranging an appointment to declare your notice please consider how many people you would like to be present when you form the civil partnership and if you would like a Registrar to conduct a ceremony for you.

You have 2 options. It is important this decision is made prior to declaring the notice as it will not be possible to amend the notice once completed.

1, You can choose to sign the schedule in front of your two witnesses by booking a statutory appointment at Sutton Register Office on a weekday morning (subject to availability). There are no extras and it is strictly witnesses only in attendance. The statutory appointment is only available to Sutton residents,

2.You can choose  to combine the signing of the schedule with a full ceremony at Russettings, and extend an invitation to your guests including your 2 witnesses. Our Drawing Room will accommodate up to 30 guests and Garden Room up to 90 guests. You can enhance your ceremony by including music and readings.

For both a statutory appointment or a Russettings ceremony you may wish to celebrate by toasting your partnership with a glass of sparkling wine or soft drink.  Please ask a member of the team for further details.
