Delivering New Jobs and Affordable Homes for a Better Sutton

In Sutton, we are committed to building a borough that works for everyone, and our recent council motion sets out our plans to create a local economy that provides good jobs and builds the homes people truly need.
We want to make Sutton a place where businesses can grow and our high streets are busy and vibrant. We recently launched our Economic Growth Plan, which sets out a clear vision to support our 8,000 local businesses and create new opportunities over the next decade. As part of this, we are helping local businesses become more sustainable and reduce costs through our Green Energy Partnership (GEP). This scheme supports businesses in cutting their energy use and helps them reduce their business rates.
We are excited and proud that the London Cancer Hub is in our borough, supported by the insurance giant Aviva, the London Cancer Hub is a partnership of the Royal Marsden, the Institute of Cancer Research, Harris Academy Sutton, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and the Council. Through the Aviva/Socius development alone, 4,160 well paid jobs will be created (direct and indirect) and will add £1.2 billion a year to the UK economy*.
A decent home is a basic right and by prioritising the delivery of genuinely affordable homes, such as our recent work to increase council housing in the town centre and our flagship regeneration projects at Elm Grove and Beech Tree Place, we are ensuring that Sutton remains a place where families can put down roots and young people can afford to stay in the community they call home.
As an efficient and well-run council, we take pride in managing our resources effectively to ensure that we can continue to provide the high quality local services you rely on. A fact reflected in our latest residents survey where 90% of residents were satisfied with their local area as a place to live.
From opening the new Preparation for Adulthood Hub at Sutton Life Centre to keeping our parks beautiful and our streets clean, we are dedicated to providing value for money.
Together, we are making Sutton a stronger, fairer place to live and work.
