If you are concerned that a park or verge is overgrown, you can let us know using our online form.

There may be times of the year that grass is growing so quickly across the boroughs that we struggle to keep up, despite our best efforts. This is often particularly during spring and autumn, when it’s mild and wet.

How we maintain grass

We cut approximately 438 hectares of grass across the borough including:

  • bowling greens, cricket pitches and football pitches
  • many miles of road-side verges
  • 86 parks and public open spaces
  • 7 cemeteries and churchyards

Grass grows at different times and at different rates depending on weather conditions. It's not possible to schedule grass cutting on set frequencies.

Instead, we provide a responsive service that aims to keep grassed areas looking neat and tidy.

Grass verges on red routes

Grass verges on red routes in the borough are maintained by Transport for London (TfL).

The red routes in Sutton are:

  • A24
  • A297
  • A232

You can report overgrown grass verges on red routes to TfL online.
