No place for hate in Sutton

The messaging on the stickers has raised concern of an association with far right propaganda. 

In response to the incidents,  Cllr Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council and lead councillor for community safety, said: "Sutton prides itself on being a safe and inclusive place that welcomes people from all backgrounds, with close knit communities who get along. We welcome the diversity of people living in our borough and the opportunities this brings for us all.

"In partnership with Sutton Police and the community, the Council is determined to show that we will not tolerate any hateful behaviour in Sutton and that we stand together against hate and with those who are victims of hate. We are taking this incident very seriously and are assisting the police in their enquiries." 

If you are a victim of a hate crime or witness a hate crime you should report it to police by calling 101 or in an emergency dialling 999. 

Sutton Council also commissions Stop Hate UK who provide independent, confidential and accessible reporting and support for victims, witnesses and third parties on a 24 hour free third party reporting number 0800 138 1625. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, the number allows the public to give information to the police with guaranteed anonymity about crime and criminal activity.

Hate Crime is any crime or incident where the victim, or any other person, believes it was carried out because of the victim’s identity. This can be verbal or physical.

  • Religion/faith/belief

  • Disability

  • Sexual Orientation

  • Gender Identity
