Prediabetes and Healthier You: NHS National Diabetes Prevention Programme

Type 2 diabetes causes the level of sugar in the blood to become too high. It can lead to serious complications such as sight loss, kidney failure, heart attack, and stroke. 

When you may be at risk

  • if you carry extra weight, especially around your middle
  • if you are of South Asian, African-Caribbean or Black African descent
  • if you have a parent, brother, sister or child with type 2 diabetes

You should speak to your GP for advice. You could be eligible for a free place on the NHS ‘Healthier You’ National Diabetes Prevention Programme.

If you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 

You can get free NHS support online to help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
