Care workers acted bravely and with compassion to keep doing their jobs, to care for those that needed it.

The unprecedented situation presented by COVID-19 meant the care sector had to adapt overnight, working to keep their staff and residents safe under the new measures, whilst maintaining a degree of normality within their service.

To celebrate this response the Council, Sutton Health & Care and partners have produced a video as an expression of the Borough’s gratitude to those that stepped up in uncertain times and is dedicated to those we lost, cared about and worked with.

Councillor Marian James, Lead Member for Adult Social Care, said: “The care sector has been faced with unprecedented challenges in 2020. The situation changed overnight for our providers, with them having to adopt new safety measures, put aside their own concerns and continued to perform a vital role for some of our most vulnerable residents.

“This video is a show of our immense thanks to those who have given their all to protect those they care for.”

Dr Imran Choudhury, Director of Public Health, said: “It was important for us to shine a light on the work being done behind the scenes by the Borough’s care providers. The video illustrates the difficulties staff faced in carrying out their day jobs, showing just how admirably they have performed during the pandemic.”

Lucy Botting, Director of Sutton Health and Care, said: “Partnership working is what makes Sutton unique. It’s our strong connections across the Health and Care Alliance which makes work like this possible, at such incredibly short notice and in such extraordinary circumstances. We are proud of each and every colleague who stepped up during that first lockdown and those that continue to do so as we head into winter.”
