Following his permanent appointment, Luke will lead a range of services that support adults in need across Sutton, including care assessments, safeguarding, support for with specific needs, disabilities and those experiencing domestic violence. These areas form an integral part of ‘Ambitious for Sutton’, which is the Council’s plan to shape services until 2023.

Luke has a background in social work, having worked across various residential units, managing assessments for children and families and was previously the director of a Tourette’s Syndrome Scheme (in the USA). Luke returned to professional social work in the UK, leading the Promoting Independence and Prevention agenda for Tower Hamlets.

Luke has also worked as an Assistant Director in Greenwich, where he played an active role in Olympic planning, integration and developed the People’s Parliament for People with Learning Disabilities. Returning to Tower Hamlets, Luke became Corporate Director for a significant period, during which he also managed Integrated Commissioning and Public Health.

Nick Ireland, Strategic Director of People at Sutton Council, said: ”We are very pleased to be announcing Luke as the permanent Assistant Director. Initially supporting us on an interim basis he has promoted our ambition to better support vulnerable adults across the borough. We are excited for this work to continue under his direction.”

Luke Addams, Assistant Director of Adult Services at Sutton Council, said: "I am delighted to have been appointed and thrilled to have the opportunity to continue with the work in Adult Social Care, with our partners and our residents to achieve the Ambitious For Sutton agenda. This is an exciting time for the borough, it is a terrific place to work and we have a tremendous team. I feel privileged to work here and look forward to moving forward to deliver our vision."
