The Council is working hard and investing more in improving street cleaning services, but keeping streets clean is a team effort: a shared responsibility. We can’t do it without residents and visitors to the borough playing their part.
There are lots of things you can do to help keep Sutton clean.
Littering and dog fouling
To help keep Sutton clean:
- keep hold of your litter until you find a street litter bin - there are hundreds located all across the borough.
- if you find the bin is full, keep hold of your litter until you find one that isn't, or take it home with you. There is never an excuse for littering.
- you can report a full litter bin online and we'll get it emptied ASAP.
- always clean up after your dog - bag your dog waste and pop it in a street litter bin.
- you can report dog fouling online
Community litter picks
There are hundreds of residents across the borough that already generously volunteer their time on a regular basis to take part in community litter picks. These are organised by community groups like the Muslim Youth Group and Hackbridge Litter Pickers; by Friends of Parks Groups such as Friends of Poulter Park & Revesby Wood and Friends of Rosehill Parks; by schools and by businesses across Sutton.
We are incredibly grateful for their efforts and acknowledge the significant impact these groups have on keeping the borough looking its best.
We also know that many more residents are keen to help keep their local area clean and tidy by taking part in community litter picks, but that the hassle of organising a litter-pick event is off-putting.
That’s why, as part of the ‘People Keep Sutton Clean’ campaign, we will be running a programme of Veolia and council-led litter pick events over the summer and autumn in 2025. Litter picks will take place at the following locations:
- Tuesday 5 August - Rosehill/Middleton Road/Green Wrythe Lane
- Thursday 14 August - Sutton High Street/Benhill Avenue roundabout/Cheam Road
- Thursday 28 August - London Road/Hackbridge Road
- Tuesday 9 September - Mollison Drive/Woodcote Green
- Tuesday 23 September - Worcester Park (Central Road)
- Friday 3 October 2025 - Stonecot Hill/Sutton Common Drive
If you’d like to join one of these littler picks, all you need to do is sign up and turn up - we’ll take care of the rest (litter picking equipment provided):

Fly tipping
A bag of rubbish dumped on the pavement. Donations left outside a closed charity shop. Fridges, freezers, furniture and mattresses left at the roadside. These are all examples of fly tipping.
If it’s your waste, it’s your responsibility - dispose of your waste responsibly by:
- using your kerbside recycling and waste collection service properly
- taking unwanted items to the borough’s Kimpton Park Way HRRC
- using the Council’s bulky waste collection service
- selling or donating unwanted items using websites like Freegle, eBay, Gumtree, Freecycle or social media community groups
- only donating items to charity shops when they’re open.
Ensure you don’t become an accidental fly-tipper by following the ‘SCRAP’ code.
Thank you for playing your part in keeping Sutton clean!
