Neighbourhood Fund - 2025

Neighbourhood Fund 2025: Celebrating Our Successful Community Projects

We are proud to announce the final selection of projects awarded funding through the Neighbourhood Fund 2025. Following extensive public consultation, these 36 initiatives have been chosen for their ability to improve local places, enhance our parks, and support the health and wellbeing of residents across the borough,.

Below is a summary of the successful projects and the benefits they will deliver to the community.

Improvements to Our Places & Community Centres

These projects focus on making our community spaces more sustainable, accessible, and inclusive for all residents.

  • Whitehall Welcomes: An Accessible & Engaging Future: This flagship project will develop Whitehall Historic House into a community wellbeing and SEN hub, featuring dedicated sensory spaces in the gardens and an all-weather outdoor space.
  • PlayWise Wallington Hub: Funding will provide a new mobile classroom and training facility to expand specialist support for parents and carers of neurodivergent children.
  • The Grange Facility Improvements: Enhancements include a new outdoor defibrillator, water fountains, and permanent goal posts, alongside refurbished pavement games to support families and NHS children’s physiotherapy sessions.
  • Hill House Inclusive Access Ramp: Ensuring the community centre is accessible to everyone by installing a second modular steel access ramp.
  • Lenham Road Community Garden Rainwater Harvesting: A sustainable system to collect water from the multi-storey car park, helping to establish plants while reducing water run-off and flood risks.
  • Community Food & Gardens: Projects at Worcester Park Library, St John’s Church Belmont, and the Sutton United Foundation will revitalise pocket gardens and create food-growing spaces, boosting local biodiversity and providing peaceful areas for community connection.

Enhancing Our Parks & Outdoor Spaces

Investment in our parks ensures they remain safe, vibrant, and enjoyable environments for physical activity and nature recovery.

  • Safety & Security: New estate fencing and flint wall repairs at St Nicholas Churchyard will improve the town centre route, while security fencing at Roundshaw Playing Fields will protect grass pitches from motorbike damage. Nonsuch Park will also receive height restriction barriers to prevent unauthorised encampments.
  • Play & Exercise: We are replacing dilapidated or missing equipment at Cuddington Rec, Cheam Rec, Grove Park, and Rosehill Park with inclusive items that encourage active lifestyles and social interaction for all ages.
  • Nature & Biodiversity: Restoration work at Horseshoe Pond will protect rare aquatic habitats, and the creation of a Wildflower Meadow at The Warren Rec will transform a current eyesore into a thriving natural habitat.
  • Overton Park Improvements: New painted pedestrian crossings and picnic seating will make the park safer and more welcoming for families and spectators.
  • Corrigan Avenue Rec: A new welcome sign will be installed to provide essential safety and contact information for visitors.

Health, Wellbeing & Community Connections

These programmes focus on tackling isolation, celebrating our heritage, and promoting healthy living.

  • Inclusive Activities for All Abilities: From Beginners Walking Tennis and Sutton in Motion BMX courses to a year-long Wellbeing in the Wild programme, residents will have more opportunities to stay active in nature.
  • Supporting Vulnerable Residents: Radio St Helier will expand its broadcast visits to care homes to help residents with dementia, and The Grayble Social Club will offer professional enrichment for adults with special educational needs.
  • Connecting Generations: The Living Well Living Room and Sutton Through the Lens projects will bring younger and older residents together through dance, book clubs, and photography.
  • Preventative Health: The Balance and Blood Sugar project will empower residents through exercise and nutrition classes to help prevent diabetes.

Culture & Activities for Children and Young People

Celebrating Sutton’s stories and supporting the development of our younger residents.

  • Youth Development & Mental Health: The Embracing Your Emotions project and Sutton Soundscapes inclusive music ensemble will support the emotional resilience and creative confidence of children and teenagers, particularly those with SEND.
  • Holiday & Creative Learning: The Summer in Sutton programme and Quickdraw History Comics workshops at Whitehall will provide fun, educational activities during the school holidays.
  • Arts & Heritage: Residents can enjoy the Khushwant Singh Literary Festival, the Making Waves sports history workshops, and Swar Sathi, a musical programme celebrating Indian culture and classical arts.
  • Sutton’s Eco Stories: A new trail of permanent "Storytelling Stations" will be installed in green spaces to showcase short films produced by local residents and schools.

Other funding for public space improvements

If you have an idea for a small-scale project to improve your local area, you may be able to access funding via the Public Realm programme.

Public Realm grants are typically for smaller projects which improve public spaces in Sutton (e.g. seating, trees and signs) in comparison to the Neighbourhood Fund which is for larger projects which help to address the extra demands that development (e.g. more housing) can place on local areas.

For more information about Public Realm, including guidance and details on when and how to apply, please view our webpage, and see the heading 'funding to improve public spaces section'.
