Air quality monitoring

As a result of monitored and modeled exceedances of the National Air Quality Objectives (NAQOs) for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter (PM10), the entire borough has been designated as an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA). 

Part IV of the Environment Act (1995) requires that local authorities must draw up a five-year Air Quality Action Plan to bring air quality within an AQMA into compliance with the NAQOs.
