Food waste
Your food waste recycling is collected every week. You will have two food waste containers:
- a small indoor caddy to use in your kitchen
- a larger outdoor caddy with a lockable lid
What we can collect
- all uneaten food and plate scrapings
- fruit and vegetables (raw vegetables, cooked vegetables, whole fruit, peelings)
- cooked and raw meat, chicken, fish and bones
- rice, pasta and beans
- bread, cakes, pastries
- cheese and eggs
- bread, cake, pastries
- tea bags, loose tea coffee grounds
- cut flowers
What we can’t collect
- plastic bags
- packaging of any kind
- liquids such as milk
- oil or liquid fat
- garden waste
You should line your small kitchen caddy with compostable liners (available to buy in supermarkets) or old newspapers. When your indoor caddy is nearly full, tie the top of your liner (or fold over the newspaper) and put it in your outside food waste bin ready for collection.
General waste
- general waste is collected every week
- all general waste should be stored in the red branded bags provided by the council
Red branded bags
- general waste must be presented in red branded bags
- any other type of bag will be treated as fly tipping and you may receive a fine
- a supply of red bags is delivered to your property annually in March/April
What we can collect
- non-recyclable rubbish
- wet or dirty cardboard (e.g. food-stained pizza boxes)
- plastic bags and film (please check if you can recycle these at your local supermarket)
- polystyrene
- nappies
What we can’t collect
- recycling or food waste
- electrical items
- batteries
- gas canisters
- DIY / building waste
- hazardous waste - asbestos, oil-based paints, antifreeze, chemicals, petrol
Paper & card
- paper and card recycling is collected every two weeks
- use the clear branded bags provided by the council
Clear branded bags
- paper and card recycling must be presented in these branded bags
- any other type of bag will be treated as fly tipping and you may receive a fine
- a supply of clear bags is delivered to your property annually in March/April
What we can collect
- newspapers and magazines
- card and cardboard
- toilet and kitchen roll tubes
- egg boxes
All paper and cardboard should be clean and dry.
What we can’t collect
- plastic bags
- dirty cardboard (e.g. food-stained pizza boxes)
- food and drink cartons
- disposable face masks
- tissue paper
- shredded paper (unless it's put in a paper bag or envelope)
- general waste

Batteries and textiles
Small quantities of batteries and textiles are collected every week for recycling.
Batteries
put them in an untied, plastic bag and place them next to your containers on collection day
Textiles and shoes
- put them in a plastic bag (tied - to keep the textiles and shoes dry) and place them next to your containers on collection day
- space on the collection trucks is limited so a maximum of one bag per collection
