More space for wedding guests as Sutton’s Register Office is revamped

Couples tying the knot can now share their big day with a larger group of friends and family thanks to a new marriage room at Sutton’s register office.

The newly built garden room at the historic property known as Russettings, in Worcester Road, provides space for up to 90 guests in a contemporary setting. Bi-folding doors can be opened up to lead straight out onto a terrace and garden.

The modern space can also be used as a conference facility and perfectly complements the traditional Drawing Room at Russettings which is newly redecorated and provides space for up to 30 wedding guests.  

The Mayor of Sutton, Cllr Steve Cook, formally unveiled the new facilities at a ceremony held on 17 July attended by guests including council members.

Cllr Cook said: “Russetings is already a beautiful setting for couples to celebrate their special day. The new garden room provides a bright and airy space which I am sure will be very popular.”

Russettings was built in 1899 at 25 Worcester Road in the Arts and Crafts style. It was originally occupied by George Smith and his wife Mary, who was the sister of local benefactor Thomas Wall. Original period features include gabled roofs, large chimneys, bay windows, a green copper dome and a porch with a tiled roof and marble floor.

The house became Sutton Register Office when the London Borough of Sutton was formed in 1965. It was last refurbished in 1994.
