Some industrial processes have the potential to cause pollution. You must have a permit to operate them.
There are currently 3 types of processes:
These have the potential to cause pollution. They're regulated by the Environment Agency.
These have the potential to cause pollution. They're regulated by local authorities.
These have the potential to cause only air pollution. They're inspected and regulated by local authorities
Examples of Part B processes include:
We are responsible for authorising and inspecting all Part B processes. This is also referred to as Local Authority Pollution Prevention and Control (LAPPC).
If you hold an Environmental Permit, you'll need to pay an annual fee known as a subsistence fee.
These fees are set each year by DEFRA.
If you operate a Part B process that requires a permit, you must:
We will then issue a permit under government guidance.
You must follow the conditions of a permit and they will be subject to inspection.

If the process that requires the permit is no longer operational, you'll need to submit a form surrendering the permit.

If the process is remaining operational but there is a change to the operator, the current permit holder is required to submit the details on a Transfer form.
