Parking strategy consultation update

The parking strategy seeks to prioritise on-street parking for residents where possible, while taking into account demands on kerb space from future developments, commuter parking and safety and access for emergency and refuse collection vehicles.

The review, which is taking place across three geographical areas, is now at the next phase of consultation covering Geographical Area 2.

The council has this week written to residents in parts of Cheam, Belmont, Carshalton Central, Carshalton South and Clockhouse to update them on the latest proposals for their areas.

Environment and Neighbourhood Committee Chair, Councillor Manuel Abellan said: 

“The new plans were developed following feedback in our initial consultation for Geographical Area 2, and we have now developed very specific parking proposals in a small number of locations.  

“The revised proposals mean that for many residents, we are not suggesting any major changes. We do, however, need to address areas of acute parking pressure identified through the consultation and parking beat surveys.

“We have designed targeted schemes to address parking issues in those key locations and we are now seeking feedback from residents to the proposed parking solutions.”

The three main options proposed are:

Controlled Parking Zones: permit required

-Belmont Road area

-Cheam area

-Belmont Hospital (BH CPZ extension).

Permit Parking Area: permit required

-Talbot Road area

-Gordon Road area

-Anglesey Gardens area

-Stanley Road area

-Radcliffe Gardens

-Carshalton Beeches

Free Bay Scheme: no permit required

-Belmont Station

-Hillside Road

Double yellow lines have also been proposed at key locations to improve road safety and maintain access.

Consultation

Residents are encouraged to complete the online survey by Monday, 24 February, 2020.

Street design proposals can also be viewed online using our street search and mapping tools. 

Alternatively, residents can come to one of our face-to-face events and talk to our parking team at a local drop-in session.
