As a ‘Lead Local Flood Authority’ (LLFA) under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, the London Borough of Sutton is responsible for co-ordinating the management of flood risk from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses. The aim of the Act is to make it clearer who is responsible for different types of flooding and empower the council to take action to reduce the risk of flooding through the use of regulation, designation and investigation.

The links on the right hand side of this page (under More in "Lead local flood authority") explain the council’s duties under the Flood and Water Management Act.
